what we do

The Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC) lies at the centre of the SMRC’s Regional Waste Management Strategy, delivering many environmental, social and economic benefits. World class processing technologies were carefully selected to ensure the Waste Compost Facility (WCF), Green Waste Facility (GWF) and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) work together to manage waste streams cohesively and efficiently. The RRRC strives to maximise the amount of waste diverted from landfill into resource recovery facilities; leading to a more environmentally sound and sustainable future. The facility includes:

  • The Waste Composting Facility for organic waste processing of the contents of the green top bins.
  • The Materials Recovery Facility for the sorting and recovery of recyclable materials from yellow top bins.
  • The Green Waste Facility where we process green waste placed out on the verge by residents for verge collection.

Each of the facilities has been designed with additional capacity to allow for regional population growth over the next 20 years.
